Search logic

  • Name Matching:
  • The system checks the entered name against a list of company names found in sanction lists.
  • To account for potential variations in spelling or minor errors, the search also uses “fuzzy matching.” This means it can find results that are similar but not exact matches to the entered name.
  • Impact of Name Length and Uniqueness:
  • Longer, more unique names tend to yield fewer search results, but these results are generally more precise.
  • Conversely, Short, generic names may return a larger number of search results, but these results may be less accurate. This is because short, common names have a higher likelihood of matching multiple entries.
  • In short:
  • The search system tries to find the subject that was input into the sanction lists.
  • It uses fuzzy matching, which means that the system is tolerant of small errors in the input string.
  • The longer the input string, the more accurate the results will be.
The default probability is set to 95; you can increase it to filter out false positives. However, doing so also risks missing individuals who have multiple names, variations, aliases, etc.
